Ask for Suggestion, Not Permission

In the daily work, especially during the roadmapping or planning season. I used to ask for permission before taking any initiatives:

“Hi, I am planning to do X. Does that sound OK with your team?”

“Hey, I have an idea of doing Y. Are you on board with me?”

However, my EM, PM, or other XFN leads are hesitant to give me a clear answer back then.

It took me a long time to understand that it seems the reasonable and right thing to do on the surface, but deep down to its core, asking for permission…
